Thompson volleyball wins road match

The Thompson Warriors hit the road Sept. 17, traveling to Wetumpka to take on the Indians in area play.

The Warriors came out swinging, and ended up sweeping Wetumpka in three sets.

In the first set, the Warriors held the Indians to single-digit points, taking the 25-8 set win. The squad followed up with a repeat performance, defeating the home team 25-9. While Wetumpka put up more of a fight in the final set, it was not enough to hold off the Warriors, as Thompson won the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.

Kelsea Bivins led the Warriors with 10 kills, Taylin McCarver had five kills, Tara Miller posted 23 assists, August Newberry had six digs, Maggie Eaton posted five aces and Ashley Fondren had four aces for Thompson.

With the win the team moves to 8-5 on the season, and 1-0 in area play.

Thompson travels to Millbrook to take on Stanhope-Elmore Sept. 24.
