Grace Buren (Strahan) Sandlin passed away Sept. 12, 2013. She was born July 20, 1922, in Hattiesburg, Miss. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Alabaster from its beginnings until 2010, when she was no longer able to attend. She was secretary under the first three pastors of the church, and worked in the nursery for more than fifty years. She retired from Alabaster Water and Gas Board at the age of 71.
She was preceded in death by her son, Fred Sandlin Jr.; brother, Lawrence Strahan; and parents, Clara Lee and Van Strahan.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Fred Sandlin Sr.; daughter, Tammy Hope (Nick); grandson, Christopher Hope; great-granddaughter, Haley Hope; sisters, Frances Strahan and Evelyn Taylor (Herman); and brother, Van Strahan (Bobby), all of Hattiesburg, Miss.; several nieces, nephews and a host friends.
The family will receive friends on Sept. 16 from 1-2 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services following at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. The pallbearers will be Chris Reed, Jeff Bell, Kenneth Willis, Jason Sandlin, Scott Chancey and Boyd Chancey.
