CALERA – Road repairs for the railroad crossing on Shelby County 22 near the U.S. 31 intersection in Calera are being moved up a day due to train schedules. The road will now be closed Aug. 13-14 rather than the originally-announced dates of Aug. 14-15, said Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley.

The road will be closed for much-needed railroad repairs at the railroad crossing between George Roy Parkway and the Dargin Cemetery just west of the U.S. 31 next to the Sysco plant. Lemley said people should plan to use other routes while the railroad is being repaired.

Lemley said he has been working steadily for the last six months to get the railroad crossing repaired, and the repairs are very good news for the city of Calera.

He also said he wasn’t certain what the repairs would entail, but he said they would repair the railroad crossing so that it no longer damages cars crossing the tracks.

The last he heard from the state, railroad repairs on Alabama 25 would be next, he said.
