University of Montevallo freshman Juan Noce made the biggest shot of his life on the biggest stage he’s ever played on July 18 with a hole-in-one in the section qualifying round for the 113th U.S. Amateur Championship at the Links at Union Vale in Lagrangeville, New York.

Noce carded the hole-in-one on the hole No. 12, a 169-yard, par 3 hole.

“What a great story for Juan to make a hole-in-one trying to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship, which is such a prestigious event,” said Montevallo men’s golf coach Justin Pratt. “I know Juan and many of our players are working hard this summer and playing in numerous events to continue to improve and also be ready for this upcoming season.”

Noce didn’t make the cut for the U.S. Amateur Championship, but the experience of playing against some of the best amateurs in the country on a difficult golf course will pay off this fall.

The Cordoba, Argentina native competed in eight events and played 22 rounds for the Falcons during his freshman season.

Noce posted a season-best round of 2-under par 69 in the opening round of the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate Feb. 11 at the Golf Club at Fleming Island in Jacksonville, Fla. Noce finished with a 77.59 stroke average.
