ALABASTER–A train struck a vehicle this morning on 2nd Place SW in Alabaster, resulting in one serious injury and traffic congestion in the area.
The wreck occurred at 9:16 a.m. when a Ford Ranger pick-up truck appeared to cross in front of a moving train, said Alabaster Police Chief Curtis Rigney. The crash occurred right behind City Hall, and the driver of the pick-up truck was seriously injured and transported to UAB, Rigney said.
At 10:37 a.m., Rigney said Alabama 119 had been reopened for the last 15-20 minutes, though it had been shut down with policemen rerouting traffic for the last hour or so. 2nd Place SW is still closed with traffic being rerouted behind City Hall, Rigney said.
“We are in the process of clearing the roadway now,” Rigney said. “We have to move the vehicles, and the train has to reconnect to the track.”
Rigney said traffic is starting to clear in the area and should be at normal levels soon.
