Current Alabama House of Representatives District 49 Rep. April Weaver, R-Brierfield, will be running for re-election in 2014, she announced on June 4.

Weaver was elected to her first term on the House of Representatives in 2010, and will serve a different geographical region if she is re-elected to the seat next year. As a result of redrawn House district lines, District 49 will cover southwestern Shelby County – including parts of Alabaster and Montevallo – and portions of Bibb and Chilton counties.

“As a lifelong resident of District 49, my goal is to continue to be a proactive representative of the people of the area. I was born and raised a Republican, and I will continue to be a strong, conservative voice for the voters of this district if reelected,” Weaver wrote in an email. “Every day I am in Montgomery, I will fight to ensure that the conservative values and principles we share are reflected in every piece of legislation that is sent to the governor’s desk.”

Weaver is married to Dr. Darrel Weaver, and they are members of Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster.

She has been an employee at Alabaster’s Shelby Baptist Medical Center since 2002, and currently serves as the hospital’s director of business development and is a member of the medical center’s executive team.

Weaver previously was selected as a member of Birmingham Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” list of young professionals and as “Alabama Young Career Woman of the Year.” In 2011, she received the Business Council of Alabama’s Advocate for Progress Award and in 2011 and 2012 she was chosen as Outstanding Legislator of the Year by the Alabama State Nurses Association.

During her tenure with the House of Representatives, Weaver has sponsored and passed bills aimed at supporting small businesses, economic development and “pro-life, military and conservative values,” according to a press release.

During the 2013 legislative session, Weaver also sponsored bills aimed at cutting down on prescription drug abuse.
