Members of the 2013 Kingwood Christian School softball team were awarded for their accomplishments on May 14. The team finished 30-7 and finished runner up in AISA state play.

“We lost three-to-four seniors of last year’s team,” he said. “We knew we had a good group, we didn’t know how (good). They overachieved. We weren’t picked to do much this year.”

The team MVP Award went to Kaylyn Ingram, who finished the season batting .538, with ten home runs and 64 RBI’s. As a pitcher, she logged an 18-4 record, including 17 straight wins.

Kendall Jonseof was the Defensive Player of the Year, playing shortstop for the Lions, she was awarded for averaging less than five errors for the season.

Blair Holsembeck won the Offensive Player of the Year Award, batting .438, with eight home runs, 12 doubles, three triples and 17 stolen bases.

The Coaches’ Award for sportsmanship went to Taylor White.

Coach Ace Ingram said the 2013 squad surpassed even his expectations.

“Second place wasn’t the goal, but it was farther than a lot people thought,” he said. “We went farther than Kingwood’s ever been.”
He said senior leadership helped guide the team through the season.

“The whole group meshed well,” he said. “Our whole area went to state, and we went undefeated through the area. We always had problems getting past the second playoff game and by Glenwood, (and did both this year). We got some monkeys off our back.”
