COLUMBIANA — Shelby County will reinstate two out of the three license clerk positions eliminated during the recession.
The Shelby County Commission voted to reinstate the two positions after County Manager Alex Dudchock put forward a recommendation to do so during the May 13 commission meeting.
The positions were reinstated because the license offices have saved money by having customers pay card transaction fees, rather than the county paying them. To date, the county has saved almost $83,000 through not paying card transaction fees.
According to the resolution, the two positions should be filled during this fiscal year. The resolution also states that Dudchock expects to ask the County Commission to reinstate the third license clerk position in fiscal year 2014.
