The owners of Pelham’s 2 Pesos restaurant are planning to open a new steakhouse in the former O’Charley’s building off Alabama 119 by the end of May, the owners said on April 29.

Crews have already begun renovations on the former O’Charley’s building to prepare the building to accommodate the Flames Steakhouse, Laura Medina, owner of 2 Pesos and Flames Steakhouse, said.

Restaurant manager Rose Lambert said the 2 Pesos owners decided to open the steakhouse to bring a new offering to the city after the O’Charley’s closed more than a year ago.

“It’s a good opportunity to bring something new to the city. It’s a great location,” Lambert said, noting crews currently are working to repaint the building.

During its April 29 meeting, the Pelham City Council approved an Alcohol Beverage Control liquor license for the business.

“You’ve been doing business in the city for 12 years (at 2 Pesos),” said Councilman Ron Scott. “I know you’ll do equally as well in your new endeavor. We appreciate you making that investment.

During the meeting, Council President Rick Hayes also praised the new restaurant and encouraged Pelham residents to patronize local businesses.

“We do have some fantastic business owners, and we’ve got to patronize these businesses and make sure we take care of our own.”
