As Alabaster continues to grow, the public demands more and more varieties of businesses. Those of us who have been here 30 years or so are pleased that we are able to purchase practically anything we want or need in our own city.
New families are attracted to Alabaster and its schools, parks, senior services, shopping, churches, fine hospital and medical services.
Missy Anthony saw the need for prom and pageant wear along with all the added attractions of perfect jewelry and shoes. Gorgeous dresses will “knock you out” upon your entrance to the store, Glitz and Gowns, located conveniently in Elliotsville Plaza on Highway 119 south.
Anthony and her staff are personable, courteous and not overbearing. Raised in Bradenton, Fla., Anthony and her husband John are Florida State and Florida graduates who have been married since 1993.
In the past, Anthony worked as a department manager for Burdines department store (bought out by Macy’s) and then worked as an account executive for Clinique Cosmetics. Husband John’s job in the beer industry brought them to Alabaster.
Son Clay is on the Thompson High School championship wrestling team and plays tennis. Daughter Camryn is an eighth-grader at Thompson Middle School.
The Anthonys have a place on Lay Lake and also love the beaches of Destin. However, Anthony’s dream vacation (if money were no object) would be one of the exotic getaways featured on “ The Bachelor” TV show.
Everyday values are important to the Anthonys. They are members of Westwood Baptist Church, and treating everyone the way they would want to be treated is high on their list of important values.
“I want to be remembered as a Christian woman who loved her family with all she had,” Anthony said.
When asked what she hopes to instill in her children her answer was “Love for the Lord, others and themselves and to give everything they do one 100 percent.”
