Pelham’s Mi Pueblo supermarket soon will be moving into a much larger location after the business’ owners leased the former Pelham Food World location on U.S. 31.
Mi Pueblo currently is at a smaller location a few hundred feet from the about 9,400-square-foot former Food World store, and has outgrown is current location, said store Manager Claudia Rodriguez.
“We don’ t have any more space here. Things are going really well,” Rodriguez said on April 5, noting the store is looking to finalize the move by the end of May.
Crews currently are renovating the former Food World location at 3060 Pelham Parkway, and recently installed the Mi Pueblo sign on the front of the building.
The Pelham Food World closed its doors in October 2010 after nearly 35 years in business, and has been vacant since.
Mi Pueblo is owned by Calera resident Joel Rivera, who also owns Mi Pueblo stores in Clanton and Homewood, as well as radio stations in Alabaster, Bessemer and Lexington and a Shelby County-based construction firm.
