HELENA – A show choir of the undead will put on its final performance at the Helena Middle School Dessert Cabaret April 6.
The HMS Music Machine Show Choir, in full zombie regalia, will perform reworked popular songs as audience members enjoy desserts and beverages.
“The entire performance is about 17 minutes,” said Jennifer Kunath-Bowling, the mother of a choir member. “They first come out and have zombie makeup on, but have on show choir dresses and shirts with tie and black pants.
“It tells a story. The songs they perform have been rewritten by (HMS Choir Director) Frank Andrews to make it more of a zombie theme. Taking songs like ‘Thriller,’ he’s rewritten it to be more zombie-oriented and appropriate.”
As the production progresses, the choir members become more zombie-like in their homemade costumes of wedding dresses, prom dresses, graduation gowns and other costumes of the undead.
“Every time they perform, I just can’t wait,” Kunath-Bowling said. “They’re going to perform for Helena Intermediate School, and the kids are going to think it’s the coolest thing ever.
“The zombie theme is something people can relate to because it’s so popular right now,” she added.
The April 6 show will run from 6:30-8 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets include a gourmet dessert and beverage. Desserts include red velvet, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry cupcakes, jumbo brownie and sugar-free lemon crème. Kids can have three mini vanilla or chocolate cupcakes.
All proceeds will benefit the HMS choral department and will help in purchasing a back row platform riser and various other choral needs.
