MONTEVALLO – High school students looking for help filling out financial aid applications will have two opportunities for help in Montevallo.
The University of Montevallo Financial Aid Office is partnering with Blueprints College Access Initiative, a part of Alabama Possible, to provide two Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, workshops.
The first workshop, which is available for any high school student, will be Feb. 25 from 3-6 p.m. on the bottom floor of UM’s Carmichael Library.
The second workshop, which will be tailored for Montevallo High School students, will be Feb. 27 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the MHS library.
“Our goal with the workshops is to (help with) FAFSA completion. It can be a really confusing document, but can provide a lot of great benefits for students, especially those who are low-income, as a lot of students in this area are,” said Courtney Bennett, who coordinates the Blueprints initiative at MHS.
Students can attend to fill out their FAFSA paperwork near people who can answer any questions, so “they won’t get confused and give up,” Bennett said.
The event is free. Students and parents need to bring their Social Security numbers, as well as their 2012 income tax returns. If the 2012 return is not available, the 2011 income tax return will be acceptable until the 2012 return is available.
