Local highway needs to stay clean

Dear Editor,

I recently swerved to miss an obstacle while driving my car along Alabama 70, and almost had a dead-on collision with an oncoming car.

This Alabama state highway is constantly littered with trash that blows off trucks headed for the county landfill, located on this road.

This is the main highway going from Interstate 65 and U.S. 31 to our governor’s hometown, Columbiana, the county seat and where the county courthouse is located. It was recently resurfaced and is otherwise a beautiful road.

Why isn’t something done about the constant littering? Could we not have roadside signs asking people not to drop litter, or maybe even a sign that posts a fine for littering?

This revenue could pay for keeping the road cleaned up.
