The Pelham Police Department has charged a Pelham man with a “multitude of felony charges” after police said the man barricaded himself in his townhome during a Dec. 17 incident.

Police charged Wesley Adam Whitworth with three counts of illegal possession of a credit or debit card, two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement after officers arrested him on Dec. 17.

As of Dec. 26, Whitworth was being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $196,000. Pelham Police Department Capt. Larry Palmer said more charges could be brought against Whitworth in the future.

“We are still doing some work on this end,” Palmer said. “There actually may be some more (charges) later on.”

Whitworth’s arrest came after the Homewood Police Department asked Pelham police patrol units to help in serving an arrest warrant on Whitworth at Whitworth’s townhome on Cottage Circle.

According to police, Whitworth barricaded himself in the attic of his residence after officers announced their presence, and made his way into the attic of an adjoining townhome.

Police arrested Whitworth in the second residence he occupied, according to Pelham police.
