HARPERSVILLE – After a high-speed chase on U.S. 280 around midnight Dec. 15, Harpersville Police assisted Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies in the arrest of an Alabaster man.

Lynn Davis Baldwin, 32, of Alabaster fled from a traffic stop on U.S. 280 East and was pursued by sheriff’s deputies as he entered Harpersville town limits, according to Harpersville Police Chief David Latimer.

Officers were able to stop the fleeing suspect near the intersection of U.S. 280 and Shelby County 62.

Harpersville Officer Jeremy Brooks got out of his vehicle to assist in the arrest of the suspect. Baldwin charged his vehicle toward Brooks, forcing him to jump into his vehicle to avoid being struck. Brooks discharged his weapon, firing one round at the vehicle, as it passed, striking the rear wheel, but not Baldwin, according to a press release from Harpersville Police.

Baldwin fled again, but was surrounded by pursuing officers and eventually forced to stop on U.S. 280, just east of the initial location. At this point, Baldwin surrendered without further incident, according to the release.

Baldwin was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted assault second degree and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement. He was booked into the Shelby County Jail with a $5,500 bond.
