Jan Oliver believes women share a common bond. She believes women who worship together form even tighter relationships.
“We’re told in the Bible to help bear each other’s burdens,” Oliver said. “Women tend to be more open. When they get together to share experiences, sometimes a floodgate will open thats been held back for years.”
Oliver and fellow female congregation members at Open Door Church in Calera will host a women’s conference beginning Friday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. The program will include two nights of speakers, with Mary Coleman, the wife of a preacher, speaking Friday. There will also be door prizes, welcome bags and refreshments both days. This is the church’s first year to host the event. Oliver said the younger members of the church’s women’s ministry began bringing in speakers several months ago but wanted to find a way to expand and reach out to the community. Oliver said this type of event allows people to be themselves.
“Women who have needs of any kind can come and there will be something for them,” she said. “They can come and have a time of fellowship with fellow women around them and fellowship with God.”
There is no cost for the event. For more information, call 669–0969.
