Defending champion Jaguars qualify for sub-state tournament

The Spain Park High School boys’ golf team, the three-time defending Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A champions, qualified for a Class 6A sub-state tournament after finishing runner-up in a section tournament April 26 at Ol’ Colony Golf Club in Tuscaloosa.
The Jaguars carded a team score of 319 strokes, which placed them 25 strokes behind section tournament winner Mountain Brook.
Michael Johnson led Spain Park with his round of 2-over par 74.
Robbie Prater and Dino Schroder each carded an 8-over par 80. Vasili Kartos finished with an 85. Riley Smith fired an 89.
Oak Mountain also qualified for the sub-state tournament after finished fourth at the section tournament with a team score of 322 strokes.
Clay Nolen led the Eagles with his round of 2-over par 74.
Scott McKnight fired an 8-over par 80. Zac Goozee and Tyler Edge each shot an 84. Phillip English carded a 92.
