FROM STAFF REPORTS
University of Montevallo senior Emily Gibson of the Falcons’ women’s golf team was recently selected to compete in the NCAA South Super Regional on May 1-3.
Gibson was the first Montevallo golfer in school history to be selected to a NCAA Super Regional last season and will be making her second appearance this season. She is one of two individual golfers selected from the Peach Belt Conference and will join UNC Pembroke and Flagler which qualified as teams.
The 2011 NCAA Division II women’s golf super regional competition will be conducted May 1-3. Each super regional will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championships.
Gibson was one of just four golfers selected as individuals to compete in the South Region. Jessica Hook from Florida Tech, Ellen Chambers from Lynn and Kimesha Anthony from Columbus State were the other three individuals selected.
Gibson has won three events this year including the Montevallo Invitational and BSC Ann Rhoads Invitational. She was also named the Peach Belt Golfer of the Year this season.
Gibson will return to action May 1-3 at the NCAA South Super Regional in Lakeland, Fla. at The Club at Eaglebook.
