Employees at the Walmart on U.S. 280 today celebrated the store’s grand reopening in the culmination of a three-month remodeling project.

The store has been completely refurbished, with a new layout, wider aisles, enhanced lighting, a bright interior paint scheme and easy-to-read signs.

Store employees gave $2,000 each to the Hoover Fire Department, Hoover Police Department and the city of Hoover.

Hoover Mayor Tony Petelos, who accepted a check on behalf of the city, said Walmart has always been supportive of the city.

“This is a great workplace,” he said. “We’re happy to have Walmart in the city of Hoover. We’re glad to have two of them in our city.”

The other Hoover Walmart is on John Hawkins Parkway.

After the ceremony, Hoover Fire Department Battalion Chief Frank Brocato said Walmart has consistently worked hard to give back.

“The Walmart’s been a great supporter of public safety in the city of Hoover,” he said.

Brocato said the fire department will use the $2,000 to purchase medical supplies and equipment.

Store manager Glenn Smith said the store has been changed to align all the necessities on one side of the store for easier shopping. The pharmacy, food center and health and beauty supplies are now clustered together.

“We listened to our customers and have redesigned the store to make shopping at Walmart even easier,” Smith said.
