ALABASTER — The Shelby County Board of Education approved Daniel Steele as the new Thompson High School Principal during the regularly scheduled meeting April 21.
Steele is currently the Assistant Principal at Vestavia Hills High School and previously served as Assistant Principal at Thompson for one year.
According to Superintendent Randy Fuller, during Steele’s time at Vestavia Hills, he led curriculum and instruction for more than 1,700 students, developed the master schedule, coordinated the Advanced Placement Professional Development Program, facilitated the development of the new strategic plan at the school level and managed the professional development budget.
Steele received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Covenant College and Masters Degree from the University of Alabama in history. He also holds an Ed.S. in educational administration and an Ed.D. in educational leadership from Samford University.
During his time at Thompson, Steele said he worked under previous principal Robin Thomas and looks forward to reporting to him again as high school coordinator.
“ I’m excited to be a Warrior again,” Steele said. “ I look forward to working with Mr. Thomas. He was my supervisor when I was at Thompson before and I look forward to working with him again.”
Steele said he’s also looking forward to working with the students and the excellent administrative staff at the school. He said he believes his diverse experience will help him in this new position.
“I have very diverse experience in different school settings,” he said. “I know Thompson has a lot of diversity and that’s part of what makes it strong. I think my experience will help me meet the needs and challenges at the school.”
