MONTEVALLO– After a slow first quarter, the Montevallo Bulldogs came alive in the second quarter and cruised to a 60-35 victory over the West Blocton Tigers.
Montevallo had a strong night from behind the arc, making 6-of-13 attempts led by Trevor Chatham’s 4-of-8 three-point shooting.
The Bulldogs shot 45.5 percent overall from the field while their stingy defense held the Tigers attack to a low 24.1 percent.
West Blocton held its own in the first quarter against Montevallo as the Bulldogs only managed to have a 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs established their dominance, as they outscored the Tigers 18-4 to take a 32-15 lead into the half.
The second half proved to me much of the same as the Bulldogs outscored the Tigers against 21-12 in the third quarter. In the final quarter, Montevallo pulled back the reins and played ball control. This allowed West Blocton to outscore Montevallo 8-7 in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers were too far behind for it to make a big difference.
The Bulldogs had three players in double figures in scoring with Korey Cunningham leading the way with 13 points, six rebounds, four steals and an assist. Chatham finished with 12 points, two rebounds and an assist, while Meat Conwell had 11 points, four rebounds and six assists.
The visiting Tigers were led by Kolby Thrasher with 12 points and two rebounds.
