Monday night was a special night for the Chelsea High School baseball team as the Hornets recognized six graduating seniors in a doubleheader sweep of Leeds on senior night April 18.

Chelsea, which won the opener 4-1 and earned a 12-2 win in the nightcap, recognized seniors Drew Kennedy, Jake Campbell, Hunter Picklesimer, Carey Emmerke, Tres Gregg and Justen Moore before the doubleheader.

In a 4-1 victory in the first game, junior Joey Mock set the tone early by sitting the first 12 Leeds batters down in order before leaving the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after being hit in the face by a pitch.

Mock pitched four hitless innings with five strikeouts and two walks as he picked up the win on the mound.

Mock was replaced by Alex Dean, who pitched the final three innings and gave up one run on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Chelsea (17-14) was led offensively by Campbell, who finished 3-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs. Junior Austin Dean went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run. Junior Eli Bashour finished 2-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Gregg and Picklesimer each had a hit for the Hornets.

Chelsea jumped out early in a 12-2 win in game two, scoring one run in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and one run in the third inning.

Leeds answered with two runs of its own in the top of the fourth inning before the Hornets slammed the door by scoring six runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Sophomore Tripp Hobbs earned his seventh win and seventh complete game of the year after giving up two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.

Chelsea was led offensively by Bashour, who finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and a double. Bashour drove in three runs in the victory.

Davis Shoemaker finished 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run. Kennedy went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and drove in two runs. Emmerke finished 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and drove in two runs. Campbell, Gregg and Picklesimer each added a hit for the Hornets. Moore scored two runs and drove in one run in the victory.
