HOOVER — The Hoover City Council passed a $126 million budget for fiscal year 2013 during its meeting Nov. 19.

The budget includes an expected $114 million in overall revenue.

City finance officials project general fund revenues of $91.5 million, down from fiscal year 2012’s general fund revenues of $96 million. General fund revenues include taxes, licenses, permits and fines collected by the city, among other revenue sources.

The budget includes $2 million earmarked for Hoover City Schools. The city of Hoover has given the school system $2 million per year since fiscal year 2009.

The budget also includes $586,250 in civic contributions, including $50,000 to SafeHouse of Shelby County, $12,000 to the Shelby Humane Society and $5,000 to the Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center.

The capital improvement projects budget includes $1.1 million for an additional turn lane from Alabama 119 to U.S. 280 and $2 million to install artificial turf and improve seats at the Berry Middle School football stadium.

The budget also includes $160,000 to install drainage at the Spain Park High School walking trail, construct an umpire dressing room and maintenance shed for storage, and add concrete around the pavilion at the school, as well as $125,000 to add a floating island and walking track at Veterans Park.
