Chelsea sweeps baseball doubleheader

The Chelsea High School baseball team swept a doubleheader with Chilton County and Pinson Valley in high school baseball action April 9.
The Hornets edged Chilton County 5-4 in the opener.
Chilton County scored first with one run in the top of the second inning.
Austin Dean led off with a double to left-center field. Dean scored when Tres Gregg reached on an error by the second baseman and then went to third base on the throw. Davis Shoemaker plated Gregg on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Both teams added one run in the fourth inning. Chilton County scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, senior Carey Emmerke singled to left field. Eli Bashour followed with a bunt single. Jake Campbell drew a walk to load the bases.
Emmerke scored on a walk by Dean. With the game on the line, Chelsea earned a walk-off victory when Gregg was hit by the first pitch of his at bat.
Chelsea defeated Pinson Valley 8-2 in the nightcap.
The Hornets jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Emmerke reached on a double and scored on a single by Campbell.
Pinson Valley scored one run in the top of the third inning and Chelsea answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the third inning.
The Indians scored their final run in the top of the fourth inning.
Sophomore Tripp Hobbs took control of the game on the mound shutting out Pinson Valley the rest of the way. Chelsea added two runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-2 win.
Chelsea was led offensively by Campbell who went 4-for-4 with three doubles and drove in four runs.
Dean went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs. Emmerke was 1-for-4 with a double. Bashour, Shoemaker and Matthew Graben each had hits for the Hornets.
Hobbs captured his sixth win on the year, throwing a complete game and giving up two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts on 69 pitches.
