FROM STAFF REPORTS
COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Humane Society is looking for new volunteers.
Two new volunteer orientation sessions are scheduled for May 7: one from 10 a.m. to noon and another from 1-3 p.m. in the North Shelby County Library conference room.
“The goal of the orientation is to recruit new volunteers, train new volunteers, and equip our volunteers with the knowledge they need about our organization,” SHS Executive Director Jenny Miller said.
The orientation will be part of the national “Be Kind to Animals Week” May 1-7 and sponsored by the American Humane Society.
In addition to the orientation, May also includes “May Mayhem,” in which animals will be up for adoption for free or at a reduced price.
The SHS wants to provide as many homes as possible as May is the busiest month of the year, Miller said.
To promote the May Mayhem activities, SHS will host adoptions at PetSmart in Alabaster every Sunday beginning May 8, in addition to its regular adoption hours at PetSmart 280.
The SHS is open for adoptions Tuesday through Saturday 12:30 – 5:30 pm every week.
