Tens of thousands of Shelby County voters took to the polls on Nov. 6 to make their voice heard in the U.S. presidential race, voting overwhelmingly in favor of Republican candidate Mitt Romney.

During the election, 92,204 Shelby County residents cast their votes at 47 polling locations in every city in the county. Nationwide, Democratic incumbent President Barack Obama beat out Romney to earn a second term in office.

Thirteen of the polling locations were in unincorporated Shelby County. Of the 28,775 residents who cast their ballots in unincorporated Shelby County, 81 percent voted for Romney, about 18 percent voted for Obama and independent candidates Virgil H. Goode Jr., Gary Johnson and Jill Stein combined to total 1 percent of the vote.

At the Indian Springs Village polling location, 2,161 voters cast their ballots. Of them, 84 percent supported Romney, 15 percent voted for Obama and 1 percent combined to support Goode, Johnson and Stein.

Alabaster contained seven voting locations, at which 14,661 voters cast their ballots. In Alabaster, 75 percent voted for Romney, 24 percent voted for Obama and Goode, Johnson and Stein shared 1 percent of the vote.

Pelham contained two polling locations, at which 77 percent voted in favor of Romney, 21 percent voted for Obama and Goode, Johnson and Stein combined for 2 percent of the vote.

Helena featured one polling location, at which 6,445 voters cast their ballots. Seventy-six percent voted for Romney, about 22 percent voted for Obama and Goode, Johnson and Stein shared 2 percent of the vote.

In Chelsea, 3,550 cast their ballots. In Chelsea, 87 percent voted for Romney, 12 percent voted for Obama and Goode, Johnson and Stein shared 1 percent.

Montevallo contained four polling places, where 3,095 people voted. Fifty-seven percent voted for Romney, 41 percent voted for Obama and Goode, Johnson and Stein shared 2 percent.

The Shelby County portion of Hoover contained one polling location, where 2,331 voted. There, 68 percent voted for Romney, 31 percent voted for Obama and Goode, Johnson and Stein shared 1 percent.

In Shelby, 1,388 cast ballots at two polling locations. Eighty-seven percent voted for Romney, 12 percent voted for Obama and Goode, Johnson and Stein shared 1 percent.

In Wilsonville, 1,996 cast ballots at two polling locations. Of them, 87 percent voted for Romney and 13 percent voted for Obama.

Columbiana had 2,201 voters, of which 75 percent voted for Romney, 24 percent voted for Obama and 1 percent combined to vote for Goode, Johnson and Stein.

Calera had 6,184 voters, of whom 66 percent supported Romney, 32 percent supported Obama and 2 percent combined to support Goode, Johnson and Stein.

In Sterrett and Westover, 2,208 cast their ballots at two polling locations. There, 84 percent voted for Romney, 15 percent voted for Obama and 1 percent combined to support Goode, Johnson and Stein.

In Wilton, 314 cast their ballots. Of them, 57 percent supported Romney, 41 percent supported Obama and 1 percent combined to support Goode, Johnson and Stein.

Vincent had 1,112 voters, of whom 66 percent supported Romney, 33 percent supported Obama and 1 percent supported the independent candidates.

The Shelby County portion of Leeds had 374 voters, of whom 90 percent supported Romney, 7 percent supported Obama and 3 percent supported the independent candidates.

In Vandiver, 544 cast their ballots. Of them, 89 percent voted for Romney, 10 percent voted for Obama and 1 percent supported other candidates.

Harpersville saw 874 voters, of whom 65 percent supported Romney and 35 percent supported Obama.

Maylene saw 589 voters, of whom 77 percent supported Romney and 23 percent supported Obama.

The Shelby County portion of Bessemer contained one polling location, where 1,968 cast their ballots. Of them, 82 percent supported Romney, 17 percent voted for Obama and 1 percent supported the independent candidates.
