Calera softball pounds Midfield in area contest

The Calera High School softball team defeated Midfield 17-0 in a Class 4A, Area 8 contest March 29.
The Eagles (2-6 overall, 2-1 in Class 4A, Area 8 ) scored three runs in the first inning and 14 runs in the second inning in the victory.
Jocelyn Davis led Calera at the plate as she finished 2-for-2 with two home runs, including a grand slam in the second inning. Davis drove in six runs and scored two runs in the victory.
Kymber McGiboney, who drove in three runs and scored three runs, finished 3-for-3 with a triple. Skyler Laird, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 2-for-3 with a double.
Katie Eiland finished 2-for-2 with a triple and scored a run. Anna Seabury went 1-for-1 with a double and drove in a run. Hayley Merritt finished 1-for-2 with a double and scored a run.
Lindsay Hammac, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 3-for-3 at the plate. Morgan Tate, who drove in one run and scored two runs, went 2-for-2 at the plate. Amber Sherman, who drove in one run and scored two runs, finished 1-for-1 at the plate. Samantha Smith scored one run in the victory.
Eiland earned the win in the circle after pitching a three-inning perfect game with six strikeouts.
