A night out on the town eating crawfish and enjoying live music can help cure cancer with the upcoming Crawdaddies for a Cause event.

On Saturday, April 30 from 3 to 7 p.m., the Shelby County Reporter will partner with Grey Bar and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to raise funds for cancer research.

The event will include an all-you-can-eat crawfish boil along with sausage, potatoes and all the trimmings. Beverages will be available for purchase.

The Hunter Lawley band will provide live entertainment during the event.

All proceeds from the event will go to support Shelby County Commissioner Corley Ellis in his quest to become the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year, awarded to the nominee who raises the most money for the fight against cancer before May 12.

Rachel Harris, senior campaign manager at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, said every dollar raised at the event will count as one vote for Ellis.

The funds will also help local cancer patients and fund cancer research, she said.

“We do a lot of professional education and support groups along with patient financial aid, co-pay assistance and, of course, research for a cure.”

Entrance wristbands are available for $25 in advance and $35 the day of the event. Advance purchase wristbands will also include a t-shirt commemorating the event.
