MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to visiting Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 20 at Varsity Field.
The Falcons (6-7-2 overall, 3-5-1 in Peach Belt Conference) carried a one-goal lead late in the contest before a pair of goals just 1:07 apart sent Georgia College home with the victory.
Sophomore Brittany Woodhouse gave Montevallo an early 1-0 lead after dribbling around a defender and beating the Georgia College keeper to the near post for an un assisted goal in the 14th minute of the match.
Georgia College knotted the match at 1-1 following a goal by Haley O’Hayer off an assist from Ashley Veilleux in the 25th minute of the contest. Freshman Jade Pennock gave Montevallo a 2-1 lead on a penalty kick following a foul in front of the Georgia College net in the 51st minute.
However, the Bobcats added a goal in the 81st minute, by Olivia Holden, and another goal one minute later, by Rebekah Autry, to clinch the come-from-behind victory.
Montevallo goalkeeper Taylor Kerr, who was named the Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week last week, finished with five saves in the match.
The Falcons return to action Oct. 24 with a 4 p.m. home match against Peach Belt Conference foe Columbus State University.
