Shelby County officials are encouraging voters to double-check their voting location for the Nov. 6 presidential election before heading to the polls.

Shelby County Board of Registrars Chairperson Carol Hill said the string of municipal elections leading up to the November presidential election has caused some confusion among Shelby County voters.

“We’ve had a lot of phone calls because a lot of people voted in a different spot for their city elections than they will on Nov. 6,” Hill said.

Shelby County municipalities held local elections in late August, followed by a Sept. 18 statewide vote on an amendment to the state constitution, during which many voters cast their ballots in a different location than the August municipal election.

Voters in many Shelby County cities then returned to their municipal voting location for runoff elections on Oct. 9.

During the Nov. 6 election, voters will cast their ballots at the same location they voted during the Sept. 18 election.

For those with an up-to-date voter registration card, the voting location for the Nov. 6 election is listed on the card. Because the county’s voting precincts have changed since the 2008 presidential election, county officials mailed new voter registration cards to those whose voting location changed, Hill said.

During the Nov. 6 election, Shelby County residents will be able to vote for either Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney or incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama. Ten amendments to the Alabama constitution also will be on the ballot.

Registered voters without an up-to-date voter registration card can visit Shelbyal.com/Registrar/poll_location1.asp to review their voting location for the Nov. 6 election.

Hill said the county Board of Registrars has been busy registering new voters and updating voter information over the past few weeks. The deadline to register for the Nov. 6 election is Friday, Oct. 26.
