WESTOVER – Seniors filled the pavilion in Westover’s park during the city’s annual Music in the Park gathering.
Westover resident Edwina Chappell, former Ms. Senior Alabama, entertained the gathering that began at 10 a.m.
“It gives each senior in different municipalities an opportunity to come together with other seniors,” said City Council member Annette Tyler, who also directs the Westover senior activities.
The event was sponsored by Harrison Regional Library, Comfort Keepers, Shelby Ridge and Rehab Select and New Beacon Hospice.
Seniors from Calera, Columbiana, Vincent and Westover attended, and attendees and senior center directors alike said they look forward to the event each year.
“We love it. It’s something we plan on every year,” said Bo Robertson, manager of Calera Senior Center.
“It’s their favorite thing to come to every year,” said Tina Simmons, assistant manager at Calera.
Donna Higgins, director of the Columbiana Senior Center, agreed.
“It’s a big event for the fall,” Higgins said. “It’s about the only time these four groups get together in a small event and can go around and talk with each other.”
Westover Mayor Mark McLaughlin announced the following upcoming Westover holiday events:
-October Tales at Westover Park on Oct. 20 from 4:30-7 p.m. All are invited to hear the October Tales storyteller, play on inflatables and enjoy refreshments.
