Falcons shut out Georgia Southwestern in conference match

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team defeated visiting Georgia Southwestern State University 7-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 10 at Varsity Field to pick up its second conference win of the season.
The Falcons (5-6-2 overall, 2-4-1 in Peach Belt Conference) netted three goals in the first half on their way to the victory.
Sophomore Brittany Woodhouse accounted for the first two goals in the match. Woodhouse scored her first goal off a cross from junior Christine Prince to give Montevallo a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. Woodhouse added a second goal just more than one minute later on a free kick in front of the Hurricanes’ net.
Prince pushed the Falcons lead to 3-0 with her goal in the 17th minute off an assist from sophomore Camilla Alderin.
Freshman Jade Pennock netted the Falcons’ first goal of the second half off an assist from fellow freshman Tiffany Polson in the 47th minute of the contest.
Sophomore Julie Heltne scored the first of her two goals in the half in the 67th minute off an assist from Pennock. Heltne gave the Falcons a 6-0 lead following her unassisted goal in the 82nd minute of the match.
Freshman Corrie Eyer capped the scoring for the Falcons with her goal in the 87th minute of the contest off an assist from fellow freshman Maury Tacon.
Junior goalkeeper Taylor Kerr posted her second consecutive shutout in the victory.
The Falcons return to action Oct. 13 with a trip to Aiken, S.C. to face USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference match at 12 p.m.
