Hoover City Schools superintendent Andy Craig has been named a nominee for Alabama Superintendent of the Year by the School Superintendents of Alabama association.
Craig is the nominee for District V, which includes school systems in Jefferson and Shelby counties.
He said he was honored to receive the recognition from his fellow superintendents.
“It’s just very rewarding for me to receive their nomination,” he said. “I didn’t have it as a goal personally, but it’s certainly something I’m honored by. I’m relatively a new superintendent. It’s a recognition of, and in correlation to, my performance.”
Craig has been superintendent since 2007. He joined Hoover City Schools in 2001 as the assistant superintendent of business and finance, and was named interim superintendent in 2006 before taking the top job.
Craig said he found out about the nomination in July and had to turn in additional information about himself to the award committee in September.
The SSA is in the process of gathering all the finalists’ applications from Alabama’s nine school districts. The award committee will convene to review applications and name a Superintendent of the Year later in the fall.
