CAMP HILL – The Kingwood Christian defense stood tall to lead the Lions to a 51-6 road victory over Lyman Ward on Oct. 5.

Kingwood (3-4, 1-3 in AISA Class 3A, Region 1) held Lyman Ward to just one first down in the game and negative yards rushing.

“It was a big win for us,” said Lions’ head coach Bob Spurgeon. “Defensively we had a great game and dominated from the start.”

The Lions jumped out to a 29-0 lead in the first half led by some big plays on the ground and in the air.

Jonathan Faulker started the scoring for the Lions with a 5-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Gavin Sumrall connected with Montez Haynes for a 66-yard touchdown pass later in the period and Titus Adams added a 23-yard touchdown run for a 20-0 lead.

The Lions picked up their first of two safeties on the night when Tyler Mills sacked the Lyman Ward quarterback in the end zone.

The Fighting Rangers took advantage of good field position to start the third quarter when they found the end zone to cut the Lions’ lead to 29-6.

Kingwood scored 22 unanswered points to end the game to claim the 51-6 victory.

Faulkner led the Lions with 34 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Haynes led the Kingwood receivers with 68 yards and a score while Sumrall finished with 121 yards and two scores passing.
