Cornerstone Christian School rolled over Lyman Ward 42-0 on Friday night to improve to 3-0 on the season.

It was the second straight shutout for the Chargers. The victory was made even sweeter as it was the 100th game in Cornerstone Christian School history.

Cornerstone now holds an overall record of 55-45 in their 11th season of playing varsity football. During this time, Cornerstone has played in one state championship game and advanced to the state playoffs four times.

Cornerstone wasted little time in the getting the scoring started as LaDarius King took a handoff and ran 15 yards for a touchdown. KaDarius King added the extra point to give Cornerstone an early 7-0 lead.

On the Chargers’ next possession, J.V. McKinney finished off the scoring drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. The extra point was missed, but Cornerstone enjoyed a 13-0 lead to end the first quarter.

Cornerstone continued rolling in the second quarter as Colton Wingard took it in from 13 yards out and LaDarius King ran in the two-point conversion to put Cornerstone up 21-0. KaDarius King finished off the first half scoring by taking it in from 20 yards out to put Cornerstone up 28-0 at the half.

The first half was completely dominated by Cornerstone as they held Lyman Ward to less than 100 yards of offense. Cornerstone head coach Tim Smith was happy with the overall performance of his Chargers.

“We played really well in the first half,” Smith said. “But we’ve got to continue to keep getting better.”

The third quarter was a defensive battle as Cornerstone was able to do some substituting to let everyone get in on the action.

The fourth quarter saw Wingard score from 47 yards out for his second touchdown of the night to put the Chargers up 35-0. The final score of the night came on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Lance Benton to Patrick Shaw. KaDarius King added his fourth extra-point kick of the night to make the final score 42-0.

Cornerstone rolled up 318 yards of total offense on the night. Wingard led the way on the ground for the Chargers with 83 yards rushing with two touchdowns. LaDarius King rushed for 60 yards with a touchdown. Josh Anderson led the defense with 15 tackles and Patrick Shaw added 10 tackles.

The victory was big for Cornerstone as it puts them undefeated in the region heading into a big region game at Chambers Academy Sept. 25.
