Calera softball drops two games in Invitational

The Calera High School softball team dropped its first two games in its Eagles’ Invitational tournament March 4 following losses to Marbury and Gardendale.
The Eagles fell to Marbury 12-4.
Shelby Clark led Calera at the plate as she finished 3-for-3 with three singles and a run scored.
Calera jumped out to an early 1-0 lead following a lead-off single and a stolen base by Brittany Files, who moved to third base on a single by Clark and scored on a passed ball.
The Eagles added their final three runs in the third inning.
Clark singled and scored. Kymber McGiboney singled and scored. Anna Seabury, who reached on a fielder’s choice, stole a base and scored on an RBI single by Lindsay Hammac. Hammac stole a base during the inning.
Morgan Tate took the loss in the circle after giving up five earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and three walks in a five-inning complete game.
The Eagles fell to Fultondale 7-6 in their second game.
Files, who reached base with a single, scored the Eagles’ first run of the game in the first inning on a RBI double by McGiboney.
The Eagles scored three runs in the second inning.
Skyler Laird reached on a walk, stole a base and scored a run. Samantha Smith, who reached on a walk, scored a run. Somer Roberson reached base on a fielder’s choice and scored a run.
Calera scored two more runs in the third and final inning due to time limit.
Jocelyn Davis singled and scored. Seabury, who reached on a walk, scored on a ground-out RBI by Hammac.
Roberson took the loss in the circle after giving up two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and five walks in a three-inning complete game.
