Cornerstone tops Lyman Ward, 41-6

COLUMBIANA – The Cornerstone Christian Chargers allowed just one Lyman Ward score to cruise to a 41-6 victory at home Sept. 14.
Adrian Young put the Chargers (2-3) on the board in the first quarter on an eight-yard touchdown run, then added a 67-yard punt return for a score later in the period for a 14-0 Cornerstone advantage.
DJ Smith found the end zone in the second quarter on a 17-yard touchdown run, followed by a three-yard run for a touchdown by Michael Bevard to extend the Charger led to 28-0 at the half.
Lyman Ward scored their lone touchdown in the third period, but Cornerstone Christian scored twice in the quarter on two big plays to put the game out of reach. Young scored his second rushing touchdown of the game on a 27-yard scamper, then Sterling Riether connected with Tim Warren for a 47-yard touchdown catch to seal up the 41-6 win.
Smith led the Chargers with 103 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown. Young accounted for 98 yards rushing with two scores to go with a 67-yard punt return in the first quarter and an interception in the fourth.
Riether finished the game throwing for 134 yards on 6-of-8 passing with a touchdown. Warren led the Cornerstone receivers with 67 yards on a pair of receptions and a score.
