Montevallo tops Indian Springs on opening day

The Montevallo High School baseball team opened its 2011 season with a 10-5 win over Indian Springs School on opening day Feb. 21.
David Shirah led the Bulldogs (1-0) at the plate as he finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.
Pat Baugh finished 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Zack Smith finished 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.
Ethan Staab pitched three no-hit innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound.
Taylor Durr gave up five runs, including three earned runs, on six hits with five strikeouts and a walk in relief.
Stephen Himic led Indian Springs (0-1) at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Himic took the loss after giving up nine runs, including six earned runs, on seven hits with four strikeouts and six walks in four innings.
