The Bark in the Park festival Oct. 3 at Alabaster’s Veterans’ Park netted several thousand dollars and a few pet adoptions for the Shelby County Humane Society.
More than 1,000 people and about as many dogs spent the morning at the park browsing pet-oriented vendors, chatting with humane society employees and showing taking advantage of low-cost grooming and microchip clinics, said humane society board member Jennifer Miller.
“We raised way more than $1,000 today,” Miller said. “In fact, it’s probably safe to say we raised several thousand dollars.
“We’ll have to count it all up, so we will probably have a better idea in a few days,” Miller added.
During the event, the humane society adopted out two dogs, and saw pets ranging from several ounces to more than 180 pounds, Miller said. All profits generated during the event will benefit the humane society.
