Cornerstone Christian School senior Adrian Young returned a kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to life the Chargers to a 17-14 win over Southern Academy on Aug. 31.
The defense made a stand with Southern Academy deep in Cornerstone Christian territory to seal the win in the final minutes, which helped the Chargers pick up their first win over Southern Academy in school history.
“We got a little tired at the end, but we kept fighting,” Smith said. “Our kids are so excited.”
Sterling Reither kicked a field goal in the first quarter to give the Chargers an early 3-0 lead. Young added a 16-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to push the lead to 10-0 before Southern Academy scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take the lead.
Young’s kickoff return for a touchdown following the second Southern Academy touchdown clinched the victory for the Chargers.
