Winter weather forecast for Shelby County

The National Weather Service has declared Shelby County, as well as much of Central Alabama, under a winter weather advisory through the morning of Feb. 4.
The NWS said light freezing rain, sleet and isolated heavy snow have increased across Central Alabama throughout the day Feb. 3.
“Ice and snow is expected to continue through the evening and overnight hours,” read a press release from the NWS.
Temperatures will begin to warm up after midnight, changing much of the precipitation to rain the morning of Feb. 4.
The snow accumulations are expected to be less than two inches and ice accumulations should be less than a quarter inch.
The total sleet accumulation is expected to remain below one inch through Feb. 4.
