Shelby County Sheriff Chris Curry and District Attorney Robbie Owens held a joint press conference Tuesday in Columbiana to endorse Luther Strange as the next Alabama Attorney General.
“I’m excited about Luther Strange. He’s a confident and qualified person,” Curry said. “He can bring to the table real solutions to real problems.”
Owens said Strange is of the same mold as former Attorney Generals Jeff Sessions and Bill Pryor.
“We worked together all those years as a team,” Owens said of the time working with Sessions and Pryor. “We haven’t been able to do that lately and teamwork is so important in the office of attorney general.
“I am proud to be the first of many district attorneys who will endorse Luther Strange,” Owens added.
Strange said he intends to establish strong relationships with the district attorneys, sheriffs and officers on the street, while also working with the governor’s office on such issues as gambling.
“The gambling issue is a perfect example of a lack of cooperation between the attorney general’s office and the governor’s office,” Strange said. “You have to have a relationship with the leadership in this state and the district attorneys on the ground. At the end of the day, district attorneys have to know they have the attorney general’s backing.”
