The Hope Christian Eagles’ 28-18 victory over Shiloh Hills (Ga.) was sloppy Friday night, but not because of the play.

Playing in a torrential downpour and muddy field conditions, the Eagles managed 133 yards of total offense, including 101 on the ground and just 32 through the air.

“It was nasty,” Hope Christian head coach Mark Rettig said.

Hope took an early 8-6 lead in the first quarter, and then extended that lead to 22-12 at the half.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, but then both teams added a touchdown in the final quarter to close out the scoring.

Offensively for the Eagles (8-2), Luke Mahan and Caleb Rettig each had a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Defensively for Hope, Mahan had a team-high 11 tackles, followed by Karry Jones with 10 tackles.

Andrew Whitson and Rettig each had 8 tackles, while Rettig also finished with a fumble recovery.

Glyn Glover also had a fumble recovery for the Eagles, while Zac Hughes finished with an interception.

The Eagles will close out the regular season Friday night in Columbiana in a rematch against the cross-town rival Evangel Lightning.
