The 17th Annual Antiques, Arts and Crafts Show hosted by the Novella Club of Columbiana will be Saturday, July 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shelby County Exhibition Center on Shelby County 70 next to the Shelby County School of Technology. The show is the major fundraiser to raise funds to support local schools and charities for the Novella Club, a member of the Alabama Federation of Women’s Clubs.
There will be something for everyone! Handmade jewelry, gourd art, doll clothes, artwork, sterling silver and 14kt. gold jewelry, pottery, ceramics, woodworking, leather, antiques, homemade cakes and pies by Novellas, and much, much more will be at the show.
Novella was formed on Aug. 8, 1957, and federated on Oct. 28, 1957, by a group of civic-minded women who wanted to work for the betterment of all in Columbiana. Novella supports many worthy projects: donating scholarships for a Shelby County High School senior and Miss Shelby County Pageant contestant; hosting the America Cancer Survivor Dinner for cancer survivors and their families; providing personalized blankets and visit for every new resident at Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation; participating in the Have a Heart for the Arts luncheon with Columbiana’s other two federated clubs, Culture and Vignette, to raise awareness and financial support for the Shelby County Arts Council; annual donations to Elvin Hill Elementary, Columbiana Middle and Shelby County High schools; and support for the Shelby County Humane Society, Safehouse, Wreaths Across America, Camp Jared, Alpha Course, Heifer International, Operation Smile, Shelby Woods and veterans overseas and in local hospitals.
A new membership tea was held in the spring at member Bonnie Atchison’s home. After refreshments and program highlighting Novella’s projects, the new officers were installed: Lisa Sallas, president; Renee’ Wilder, first vice president; Denise Houston, second vice president; Gloria Beasley, secretary; Janice Key, treasurer; Peggy Wood, historian, and JoAnn Holcombe, parliamentarian. New members are: Sherry Atchison, Rebecca Moore, Anita Davis, Laura Rogers, Stephanie Foster and Sandra Brown.
Come have a fun day of shopping. All proceeds of the show will go back into the community and other charities.
