HARPERSVILLE — A 55-year-old Harpersville man was fatally stabbed July 18, and his girlfriend has been charged with the crime, according to Harpersville Police Chief David Latimer.
Police officers and rescue personnel responded to a call at a Harpersville residence and found Humphrey Keith unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Latimer said.
“He had an obvious puncture wound in his chest, and several witnesses reported that they saw him be stabbed by his 35-year-old girlfriend,” Latimer said.
Keith’s girlfriend, Shonta Cohill, was detained at the scene and subsequently arrested, Latimer said.
She has been charged with murder and is currently in the Shelby County Jail on $75,000 bond.
“We’re continuing to work the investigation at this time,” Latimer said. “We are confident about what happened; we would like to know more about why it happened.”
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is working the investigation with the Harpersville Police Department, Latimer said.
