The Montevallo First United Methodist Church is especially blessed on Sunday, July 22, to have Attic Strings as performing guests. Attic Strings is very popular for their lively blue grass music. The public is invited to attend the service that begins at 10:30 a.m.

“I am looking forward to this style of music,” said Minister Brian Wyatt. “Sounds like it will be upbeat, encouraging and uplifting. I think everyone will enjoy hearing Attic Strings.” Sermons and Songs is the fitting title of Wyatt’s Sunday message.

Mike Mahan, coordinator of this particular event, explained that the members of Attic Strings began getting together about 10 years ago just to enjoy playing music; then they began playing at different church functions; civic gatherings, etc. They practiced in an upper room of George Whisenhunt’s home, thereby inspiring the name Attic Strings.

Guitar player and singer Whisenhunt worked for ACIPCO until a couple of years ago. He and his wife now spend part of the summer and fall working in different campgrounds.

Howard Ryan, bass player, worked for Hayes Aircraft and is a professional photographer. He began playing bass more than 40 years ago.

Banjo and mandolin player Harold Ballard, a retired computer specialist, began playing as a youngster, and plays by ear. It is said that if he hears it, he can play it.

David McNair, is an MRI and x-ray technician, and is the lead singer and guitar player; he once played professionally with The Buffalo Nickel Band.

Mike Linholm, a University of Montevallo graduate, retired from AT&T, sings and plays the banjo, bass and guitar.

Ron Cater, the fiddle player, is a graduate of the University of Alabama Dental School and presently teaches at Lawson State.

The service begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. A baked potato lunch will be available.
