Shelby County residents will receive a half-off admission to the McWane Science Center Aug. 4.
Shelby County Family Day, which kicked off September 2011, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We thought it would be more family friendly if we moved it to summer right before school starts,” said Clay Shannon of the McWane Center’s developing and marketing office.
Shannon said with football season and school starting, last year’s turnout was strong, but they’re hoping to have more Shelby County residents participate this year.
“It’s a last hurrah before school,” he said.
Shannon said the science center displays four floors of hands-on exhibits, as well as an aquarium with shark and ray touch tanks. Also, Dora and Diego will visit the museum through September.
To participate, county residents must present an invitation and current driver’s license. The invitation can be downloaded at Mcwane.org, by selecting “Calendar & Events.” Click on the “Shelby County Family Day” event.
