Pelham High School rising senior Whitney Gillespie and Oak Mountain High School rising senior Caroline Seitz teamed up to lead the South All-Stars to a 7-5 win over the North in the nightcap of a doubleheader July 10 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery in the Alabama High School Athletic Association All-Star Sports Week.

The South team battled to a scoreless tie with the North squad after seven innings in the opening game.

Gillespie finished 1-for-2 at the plate in the nightcap with a stolen base and drove in one run in the victory. Gillespie, who split time playing second base and serving as the team’s designated hitter, drove in a run in the top of the seventh inning to give the South team a two-run cushion heading into the bottom half of the inning.

Seitz, who split time playing shortstop and serving as the team’s designated hitter, went 0-for-2 at the plate in the second game of the doubleheader.

Gillespie finished 1-for-1 at the plate with a walk in the scoreless tie in the opening game of the doubleheader. Gillespie singled in the top of the seventh inning, but the South squad couldn’t plate the go-ahead run.

Gillespie also closed the game in the circle for the South squad and gave up just one hit with one strikeout and one walk in two innings.

Seitz finished 1-for-2 at the plate in the opening game.
