Abby Holt, winner of the 2012 La Reunion Junior Idol, won everyone over with her rendition of “Landslide.”

Abby, who says her musical influences are classic and alternative rock, was accompanied by her brother on acoustic guitar on this Fleetwood Mac song.

“Tough song to sing. Loved the key you decided to use. Made it very interesting and a little more soulful, which was, of course, assisted by your voice,” she was told by the judges.

Holt first sang and played “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz. As winner, Holt received a spot to perform at Buck Creek fourth of July festivities, professional studio time, vocal coaching and a photo session with Gretchen B. Photography.

First runner—up was Mackenzie Andrews, second was Preston Burks and third was Maddie Crain, who performed Taylor Swift’s song, “Haunted.”

Mackenzie Andrews played guitar, singing two songs that seemed just right for her voice and style: “I’m Just a Little Caught in the Middle” by Lenka and “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry.

Preston Burk’s performance of “God Is Not Dead” by the Newsboys brought the comment, “That’s the voice I knew you were capable of,” from judge David Schlueter. Melissa Elliott and Ashley Partridge also helped judge the competition.

“Preston’s voice is changing, so he has to be more selective about the songs he performs just now,” said his uncle, Mike Hanscom.

Also, the audience was treated to performances by last year’s Junior Idol winner, Rebecca Rickard, as well as recent Idol runner up, Kristina David.

Thomas Trussel, audio/sound engineer for the event, was joined by his brother, Nathan, who acted as emcee for the finale.

“Junior Idol is a great event for everyone. The parents participate with the kids. We find everyone is taking this opportunity very seriously,” said owner Del Howell. “It brings together family generations and the folks in the community who come out and show their support.”
